Am currently reading Philip Watson's book about Bill Frisell, and learned that Al Foster was the first choice for Frisell's Rambler album. To my uneducated ears, Paul Motian doesn't seem like the obvious swap (I think the decision was a last minute one) but seems more suited to that setting. Anyway, interesting to imagine what the record might have sounded like with Foster in his place.
