Interesting to note that both of the 90s recordings are produced by musicians (Marc Copland and Dave Ballou respectively). This is music that challenges both the musicians and the listener––we are so blessed to be able to listen to such creativity! Kudos again to you, Vinnie, for your perceptive writing!
Great to see props given to Jabali and these two great records. Remembering the first time i sawJabali Play (a trio set with Jim McNeely in Beefville Colorado in the late 90s).. one of those life path memories basically the first time I had seen live music up close that conveyed such a mysterious depth and exuberant spirit. Major reason why I chose to go to school new york .
. . Oceans of time was on heavy rotation between the stereo in my freshman dorm room and one of those giant CD wallets.. I remember borrowing Amethyst from Paul Bollenback as a supplement to guitar lessons.. no excuse not to listen to these now as the stars have aligned! Much respect and thanks for posting!

Yes, a very interesting point....thanks Richard!
Speaking of Billy Hart's current band...
Ben Street is the not-so-secret sauce in that group...
Really enjoying your writing and am always adding stuff to the listening list after reading your essays...
Good call! Thanks Mark....
