This following sentence is such a compliment––"Victor opens up the circle of praise to include you, whoever you are, whatever you’re doing. He brings you right in, and he immediately dispenses wisdom, truth, and beauty." Thanks, Vinnie!
I own Family Portrait. It is exactly the kind of album you say, a masterpiece. And his sound I love for the same reasons, big but focused (Sonor drums?). And the originals are amazing, indeed . His work with Getz is so good and he is one of the few straight ahead drummers I can think of that really got Brazilian music and it's feel down. ....
Beautifully expressed Bertram. Yes, when I saw Victor with his own drums it was always a Sonor kit; as you say, a big but focussed sound. In the few discussions I've had with Victor he spoke brilliantly about his desire to understand and feel Brazilian music. Thanks for reading!
Thanks so much for this marvellous article imparting, as it does, so much important discographical information!
Thanks Red, that’s the idea! There’s more need for clarity in these matters! Thanks for reading and thank you for the comment!
