I can relate to this . My dad was a drummer and had a short but memorable professional career before ending up in advertising. He was my first teacher and I learned a lot from him and became a music addict because of his passion. I’m in my 60s now and I’ve made a living playing drums since I was a teenager and it’s all because of him. Thanks for this tribute.

Dude, this really moved me. It's a beautiful tribute! Hugs to your dad on Father's Day!(and Mom, too.)

One of the 4 high schools I went to was Sweet Home Senior High School in Amherst, NY. We lived off of Sweet Home Road. My dad was an engineer and worked for Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory. He was a self-taught player on piano and alto sax. I heard all kinds of great music in the house. He loved his bebop and post bop, but also dug many other kinds of music. I remember wearing out his copies of Steely Dan's AJA album...and that live Jazz Crusader's album with the pink cover(forgot the title), as well as Benson's album with On Broadway on it...and Joni Mitchell's album Don Juan's Reckless Daughter!

Anyway, because a chunk of of my youth was spent in that area, listening to music(recordings and live) I grok the vibe of your musical upbringing...

Thanks for reminding us how important these carriers of the flame, such as your dad and mine, were/are.

Keep doin' your thing. Thank you!
