The ongoing tumult of these days now includes the death of composer, bandleader, and pianist Carla Bley. Nate Chinen’s beautiful and informative obituary at the NY Times is the best place to start if you’re unfamiliar with Carla and her music. For those of us already enthralled, it’s a fitting send-off.
i never got to see her or steve swallow play live and i can't say i know her music super well, but i enjoyed the book on her that was put out a number of years ago by amy beal... i guess that is part of the problem living on vancouver island.. i don't know if she even made it to vancouver.. if she did, i missed it.. me and my friend tried contacting her about 5 years ago but never heard back.. anyway - if you folks don't know this, here is a very valuable resource...her website.. http://www.wattxtrawatt.com/ check out the library! - http://www.wattxtrawatt.com/library.html
there are a ton of her and steves charts you can access to put to good use!
Thank You very much for the tribute. So much to listen/re-listen.
I was expecting Tony somewhere, he is in his usual top form on 1977 Movies.
I believe D. Sharpe played with Jonathan Richman before he was playing with Carla. Not 100% but that’s what I remember
